Political Parties and the Common Road

The destination is the same. The market. Somebody had a good corn harvest. She kept some for the family and stored some in the granary. Now she is going to the market to sell the surplus. She doesn’t like the goat-seller because he denies his rogue goats trespass in her cornfields. She also doesn’t like the palm wine seller because her husband is a standing customer, but it’s market day. All three are on the same road to the market.

It is always disappointing to see political parties destroy the road and turn the market - a public trading place - into a personal backyard. It might not be a big deal to some Americans but it is, to outsiders that have never known a proper road. Potholes maybe, but not a real road to the market, football stadium, schools, hospitals or concert. Our main problem as human beings is mental vacation. Life is so easy, we don’t connect dots. The common road is everyday. When police seal off part of the highway in search of crypto currency criminals, we become late for work and kids suddenly want to use the bathroom. An accident that flattens traffic lights, slows down traffic, for both Democrats and Republicans, Liberals and Conservatives. New York and Tokyo subway flooding affect locals and tourists, employed and unemployed.

Call me naive, but the whole point of political parties is working towards a common road and keeping it in good shape because we all use it. A teacher asked kids to use beans in a sentence. “We are all human beans,” said one Einstein. Brilliant.

Forget democracy.   It should be called political bullying. We are watching it in the prelude to the Canadian election on the 19 th of October, 2015.   Americans have also started their political bullying for the looming presidential election next year. So many trees wasted on books about democracy.   Some countries have big budgets for invading other countries ‘ to defend democracy’ but it is seldom practised in campaigning for elections.   Calling opponents names and printing flyers attacking each other is behaviour that will not be tolerated in kindergarten, but it is all legal, in campaigning.   It is irritating and such a let-down to the whole notion of democracy.   Grown-up men and women behaving like Grade One kids. Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Internet Manners

The internet and mama have something in common: manners.   They believe that always say Hi! To people you meet. Home is where the heart is, but it is rough being at home these digital days.   People are so tied up in chat rooms, Instagram, Twitter, FB, YouTube or Google mania, they don’t have a minute to say hi or good night to people they share a toilet or kitchen with. Thank god for internet players.   They say hi to me when I re-open a document after a thirty minutes’ break.   It’s all automated, but it is nice when the computer calls me by my name and encourages me to continue, where I left off.
