There’s no free lunch. Is it a proverb, a line from movies or a statement of fact?  It must be fact, because accountants can write off lunch as a business expense. Alternatively, they slot it under ‘miscellaneous.’ Fascinating word, long enough to accommodate thimbles of irregularities that inflate profits.

Donald Trump donors keep him afloat while he does a Samson, on the American legal system. The biblical Samson brought down the whole edifice. That’s right. Donors have privileged information that make them funnel dollars to a man who has been found liable for fraud. It’s good political analysts keep reminding us, because it can get lost in the fog of Trump’s pending cases. His civil case right now, is what New York Attorney General Letitia James has put on the table and it includes an OUT OF BUSINESS sign outside Trump Tower.

The trial is in the public domain so donors are aware of all this. Question. Why are they pouring water in a basket? Not so fast, they don’t see it that way. They see fertile soil that will turn their donations into robust green leaves, called spinach.

There is no free lunch, especially in business. That is how empires are built. Donations have nothing to do with democracy or the will of the people. Money is like farming in the olden days, before tractors. Farmers helped each other with planting and harvesting.

In modern day New York, donations also mean building goodwill both real and imagined. What kind of goodwill are Trump donors planting? There is. It’s just classified information.

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? The internet and mama have something in common: manners.   They believe that always say Hi! To people you meet. Home is where the heart is, but it is rough being at home these digital days.   People are so tied up in chat rooms, Instagram, Twitter, FB, YouTube or Google mania, they don’t have a minute to say hi or good night to people they share a toilet or kitchen with.
