Former Special Counsel Hur Thinking on His Feet

Anticipate ambush media questions. The microphone is not a lollipop.

Reporters like media scrums. They ambush politicians as they get out the car or leave a building.

Let’s say you are the Director of Intelligence in a country hostile to the U.S. The ambush catches you off guard, because you didn’t know somebody leaked a document stamped TOP SECRET. Ha! Ha! Remember old espionage movies? Anyway, you must think of your feet.

Robert K. Hur

Formal hearings in either the House or Senate Committees are also spiked with ambush questions. Former Special Counsel Robert K. Hur demonstrated how to duck them on 12 March, at the House Judiciary Committee. He is the man who investigated Joe Biden and classified documents found in his home. Hur completed the investigation and his report did not recommend criminal charges.

I won’t go into the whole classified documents case, whether it is Donald Trump’s or Joe Biden’s because I know very little about both. I’m using Hur’s testimony at that Committee as an example of thinking on your feet, during an ambush. Congressman Eric Swalwell asked former Special Counsel Robert K. Hur if he would accept a post from Donald Trump, should he become president.

Hur replied: Congressman, I’m not here to testify about what will happen in the future. I’m not here to offer opinions what may or may not happen in the future ……….”

You must anticipate ambush questions every time a microphone is pushed in your face. It’s not a lollipop.
