Peanut Butter Pasta
America is a compromise. Founding fathers ran away from debilitating poverty in Europe, feudalism and pot-bellied royalty. They loaded kitchen utensils and seeds for certain crops, on ships bound for the New World.
That is why ‘American cuisine’ is also a compromise, a quilt of palates. It is also creative. How? Peanut butter and jelly. As a student from the other side of the world, I must admit I was clueless about PB sandwiches American students raved about until, I got the explanation. But how? You either spread peanut butter on bread or jelly, not both. Make that jam. That is what it is called in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean because it was brought by all the king’s horses and men, from an island called England.
If Americans mash peanut butter and jelly on two pieces of bread, I don’t see why we can’t use peanut butter on pasta.
PEANUT BUTTER PASTA
1. Boil pasta that looks like screws in salted water for 12-14 min.
2. Is it called rotini? Excuse me, I don’t speak Italian although I love the classic movie Cinema Paradiso.
3. Drain the water and leave for 5m.
4. Blend in a spoon of margarine.
5. Mix with peanut butter. It’s up to you, a little or two tablespoons.
6. Eat with spinach, chicken curry, ground beef chili or baked beans, if you are a starving student.
