Hurricane Tragedy and Ballot Boxes

It will be best if Kamala Harris and Donald Trump do not visit disaster areas, because it is perceived as nothing but a photo-op. They must devise other means of solidarity with grieving Americans.

It was Hurricane Helene first in states like Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. While people were mourning loved ones that did not make it, Hurricane Milton arrived to sweep away whatever they were trying to salvage.

The title of this blog mentions ballot boxes because they are a symbol of American democracy, freedom to choose who controls your life every four years. How do Americans vote in such a situation? All relief efforts must be in sync, outside partisan lines. In fact, politicians should not visit affected areas, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. It is a distraction. Their presence is bound to be perceived as political.

Voting Challenges

1. Homes have been washed away, including important I.D. documents

2. Laptops and other equipment were swept away

3. Distribution centers that hold voting paperwork might also be damaged

4. Community centers where people can gather are under water

5. Phone lines are down affecting life in general, including early voting

It’s important that any items handed out do not have Kamala Harris or MAGA signage. Think of the International Red Cross. You don’t think politics when you see that red sign. You see help, coming. Let’s hope the two presidential nominees erase ‘politics’ from their mind during this hurricane tragedy, and think about paint-free Americans, neither blue nor red state.
