Valentine's Day Trouble

Another year, another Valentine. Count down to 14 February Valentine’s Day. Some women will be expecting a double celebration: a romantic dinner and a diamond engagement ring. That brings us to statistics, although it’s guess work.

Most men don’t want to get married. Most women do. Let’s qualify that. Men in controlled societies don’t have a choice. Religion and culture demand it and aunties, mothers and grandmothers push that toboggan sled.

Men in free societies like Canada and U.S. are wary of marriage because of divorce which nibbles away at material things like mansions, Amazon profits, Microsoft profits, successful YouTube musicians, million-dollar earnings from NBA, NFL, MLB, soccer and other sports.

Therefore, things are skewed up in free societies. Men don’t want to be tied down while women want to walk down the aisle, preferably in a white dress in full view of cameras for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other social media outlets.

What also messes up marriage, are prescriptions started by Hollywood and now sustained by Nigerian movies and social media. It includes champagne galore and a trail of red roses on the floor, leading to the man on his knees: Will you marry me?

Marriage as an institution will not disappear, but there will be less divorce if couples bury that big lie: I love you. They should be upfront about why they want to get married, like having kids within wedlock, marrying a man because he’s an American or South African citizen or because women want Lewis Hamilton’s money he earns driving Formula 1 racing cars.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Einstein Passengers

Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein.
