What is Smart Water?

How do you know a country is 'developed?' It plays with water, use electricity to make decorative art.

Water is free like the wind, but they doctor it with chemicals and seal in a bottle. This is an old piece I posted on, 12/1/2019. 

Smart phones. Smart food now smart water. What next? Smart brooms? The dictionary should admit defeat. It has lost the battle to what is trending and ‘smart’ has replaced sugar-free, fat-free, organic, vegan, chemical free etc.

It won’t be long before we see ‘smart’ feeding bottles that ensure that kids don’t cry when mummy is on her phone laughing at GIF’s. Using smart in any marketing campaign guarantees attention like this empty bottle, a sibling of five other bottles, in a six pack.

I thought the push and pull was between the merits and demerits of both bottled water and tap water. Little did I know that the game has been upped to: smart water?
 
What is the dictionary meaning of smart? I believed the digital hype and got rid of my hard copy dictionary (not a smart move in retrospect), which is the reason why I went online to find the meaning of the adjective, smart. Synonyms include intelligence, bright or sharp.

Water is naturally smart because it is rain that has settled down in various neighbourhood like rivers, waterfalls, lakes and oceans. Water is smart because it is born free. It runs down mountains and rocks without green, blue, black or red passports.

One of the joys of driving from Pietermaritzburg to Durban is taking a break just before the Marianhill Toll Plaza, and collecting water that trickles down the little hill with your hands.

Lesotho, the country that is surrounded by South Africa, is famous for mountains. What is less known are springs that run down those mountains. Cold, cold, water. Now that is ‘smart water.’

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Einstein Passengers

Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein. Einstein is the unofficial pilot.   He presses imaginary brakes in the passenger seat when the driver stops abruptly for a guy who is texting on his bicycle.
