Children The Little Journalists

Former U.S. President Barack Obama used to 'talk' to kids.
Wonderful to watch. Photo credit: White House archives.

Children are cautious, not like us who believe in politicians when they say inhumane practices on little boys are human rights.

Children don’t like being alone. It’s a big NO NO! When parents hear wailing from the bedroom they know he’s awake. Kids also love new faces. They approach cautiously to determine whether they have good or bad intentions. After an hour, they see how new faces interact with mom, dad, aunts, grandparents and other people in the room. They relax and allow to be picked up, although it’s bad news for earrings. They pull and tug.

Parents are amused by all this and drop comments like ‘she likes you.’ Adults, stupid as we are make faces and coo-coo sounds. They just stare, not a smile in sight. But you can detect some interest if you talk normally although they don’t speak Amharic, Swahili, Spanish, Tagalog or American. In fact, kids can be a platform to vent your frustration with the Liberal Party without friends who are staunch red and white, hearing you.

Kids want proof. That’s why the little journalists touch your face with their size O hands. They want proof you are not a robot or Disney character. They cannot do that if you are at your computer or phone, ears under head phones to block outside ‘nuisance.’  Like kids.
