Mash Potatoes and Retirement

Use teaspoon of salad dressing instead of milk, butter and fresh cream.

We glorify retirement. Freedom from the clock, the boss, problems with owning your business and traffic. That freedom includes moving into a retirement home. Money determines their quality. We saw horrors  during the pandemic.

Shortage of money results in a poor diet. Your parents or grandparents might love mash potatoes but they are hazardous to their health if they have them everyday. It’s quite simple. You didn’t prepare the food, so you don’t know what’s in it. I was shocked the first time I saw a TV host preparing mash potatoes.

He boiled them in salted water, drained them and added more salt. Then came milk, butter and fresh cream. I didn’t understand. Isn’t that potato murder? Where is the taste after that overdose? It’s worse with retired people who live in buildings with a cafeteria.

Cafeteria food is a good example of: You didn’t prepare the food, so you don’t know what’s in it. Retired people don’t know how cafeterias prepare mash potatoes. Is it the butter and fresh cream version or did they come from a packet? Both are disastrous.

Mash potatoes are just fine without the overdose. You can add a teaspoon of any salad dressing if you want a little taste. You don’t eat them everyday. Your parents do, if they eat in the building cafeteria that serves bacon and eggs every morning, and mash potatoes for dinner.

Retirement is a health issue.
