Ime Udoka Affair Revisited

This piece was written last year, when the Ime Udoka story broke. The identity of the woman he was involved with was hidden. Now it’s out. She is Kathleen Nimmo Lynch.

Ime Udoka has been suspended from his position as Boston Celtics Head Coach, for something he did in private with a woman in the same organization. There’s a policy in place against such close encounters.

Who is the woman in question? It’s a pertinent question because of equality between the sexes. Women demand equality as they should. World constitutions afford them that right. Therefore, equality must be manifested in all aspects of life.

Ime Udoka’s life has been ruined but the woman is enjoying the anonymity. Both lives should be in tatters because two people met, discussed, then acted out the discussion. Nothing knew there, two adults doing the adult thing.

If there’s a fall-out and it becomes public knowledge, the woman’s name should also be on tweets and podcasts. That is equality. Ume Udoka’s case is not the first one.

Archives will show that there are high profile sportsmen whose wives or former girlfriends accused them of marital or sexual abuse. When it was  proven that they were innocent, women accusers did not post confessions in front of Madison Square Gardens, for being vindictive for reasons best known to themselves.

In Ime Udoka’s case, breach of company policy is the reason for his suspension. How many people were involved in the breach? Two. Then the woman’s name must be published. She should be equally ruined.

Equality means men and women should be treated equally in the whole spectrum of life. This includes roads they decide to take in their personal lives. Ime Udoka is not a hitch hiker. He was on that road with a woman. They must have agreed on a destination, whether verbal or assumed.
