Canada Wants Immigrants

Canada wants more immigrants to solve the labour shortage. The problem is in minimum wage jobs, but the government won’t tell you that.

“If we don’t continue to increase our immigration ambition and bring more working-age population and young families into this country, our questions will not be about labour shortages, generations from now,” said Immigration Minister Sean Fraser.

Some professional immigrants who have been in Canada longer are disillusioned because their qualifications and experience are not recognized. They currently work in jobs remotely related to their field while they meander through the certification process. Therefore, the government should be transparent and admit they want minimum wage workers.

Very few professionals are lucky like me when I first arrived. Janis, who interviewed me, knew about Columbia University J-School in New York. She was an American married to a Canadian. She gave me the job as an Information Officer because of Columbia’s reputation in producing good journalists.

Having said that, immigrants will find Canada better than home. Crime is very low. Statistics Canada reported there were 788 homicides in the whole country in 2021, with 117 in Toronto, the biggest city. Immigrants might also not miss home because there are no religious, cultural and economic strait jackets. We wear the same clothes, stand in line for everything and we are all insignificant, blank. There are no princes or religious gods.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Einstein Passengers

Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein.
