Ashamed. Was Ignorant About Mike Pence
I’m ashamed.
I was so repulsed by 6 January 2021, I did not fully understand what Trump’s disciples meant by ‘Hang Mike Pence.’ I had goose bumps when I saw that noose because I know it from former plantation states like Georgia, where they lynched African Americans because they did not regard them as human beings. Nina Simone has a painful song about it. I hope the Florida governor does not burn her music.
What happened on January 6 makes me ashamed that I did not understand the gravity of the office known as: Vice President of the U.S.A. I know a little bit about U.S. history because it was in exam papers, but British empire education concentrated on the American president. The House January 6 committee removed the cobwebs about the importance of the Vice President. The committee heard the following evidence about the essence of Donald Trump’s directive to his henchmen.
1. Burst into the Capitol, by any means necessary.
2. Use that fear and commotion to whisk Vice President Mike Pence, away from the mob to ‘protect’ him.
3. Try and force him into a waiting car so that he doesn’t continue with his official duties.
What are those duties? To officially make Joe Biden the new U.S. President, #46 to be precise. Fortunately, Mike Pence said: "I’m not getting into that car.”
Teacher: That is it, boys and girls. That is why Special Counsel Jack Smith charged Donald Trump with trying to interfere with: "......the nation’s process of collecting, counting and certifying the results of the presidential election ….”
Blessing: What a diabolical plan, sir!
Teacher: Blessing, that’s a big word. Clap for yourself.
The class claps for Blessing, their parents and for democracy.
