Travis Hunter and The Fumble

Photo Credit: Online pic. Colorado Buffaloes player Travis Hunter flipped the dictionary to lock in the September 21 game, against Baylor. How? American football has something called 'a fumble.' He executed it smoothly, and CU fans danced in the rain.

A Christmas Fumble, a football movie co-produced by Eva Marcille is more than a love story. It is today’s headlines about football money that has changed hands. The storyline is about once upon a time, before N.I.L.

How? Apparently, advertising and any entity with money to burn, used to give it to football programmes, in American colleges of their choice. The ‘chosen few colleges’ used it to build state of the art facilities and also to ‘buy’ - under the table - young players that showed potential. Officially, they went there for education. In reality, they were brought in to excel in football, fill up college stadiums thus making money for colleges.

And here we are in 2024. The money has changed hands because of what is called Name. Image. Likeness (N.I.L.). Money, now goes straight to football players that are successful on the field and on the internet. This movie, A Christmas Fumble is about a retired quarterback, that has a popular television show. It starts with breaking news that when he was a football player, he accepted money from a ‘booster’ and that was illegal 25 years ago.  

It was against NCAA rules. If I’m not mistaken, it is the Association that controls all college sports, not just football. There’s a lot of money involved. That’s why the NCAA wanted donations and all financial benefits  to go to the colleges and coaches, and not to players directly. ‘Boosters’ tried to circumvent that rule.

It’s all water under the bridge now. Boosters, gone with the wind. The money is on the table, or should we say in players’ bank accounts? Some coaches are crying foul, players are saying it’s about time, N.I.L. time. ‘Show me the money’ a movie line made famous by Cuba Gooding Junior.

Forget democracy.   It should be called political bullying. We are watching it in the prelude to the Canadian election on the 19 th of October, 2015.   Americans have also started their political bullying for the looming presidential election next year. Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? No Air Miles

I don’t have Air Miles.   I’m considering putting that on a T-Shirt because I cannot go to the drugstore (chemist) or coffee shop without the cashier asking me if I have air miles. We waited for about two minutes the other day, while this guy looked for his Air Miles card in his overweight wallet.   For what?   For a few points. I don’t have air miles because Mathematics is a foreign language.   I was never good in numbers. That is why I squashed the idea of being an investment banker very early in life.   I understand you can invest in cornfields before the soil is turned up or pork bellies even before a baby pig is born. That is how I view air miles, investing in tomorrow or the unknown.   I’m the dumb one.   Some people understand this air miles’ thing so well, I overheard one customer saying: I can even convert my points into cash.
