Starbuck's Secret Service

Starbucks gave me free slices of banana loaf today. Should I be worried? Do they have a tail on me?

I smell a rat. I had chores to run at a shopping mall so I dived into Starbucks to get slices of banana loaf. I tried to pay but the machine was on a ‘blue’ Monday mode. It just went black, no flickering, nothing. The lady behind the counter waved her hand at the felony machine and said I shouldn’t worry about it. Not worry about what exactly? I should not worry about paying, the felony machine was not working.

“It’s on us.”

“I shouldn’t pay?” I had to be sure.

“Yes.”

Then I got scared, because I know my sins. Why would Starbucks give me free slices of banana loaf? Maybe, the company’s secret service is on my tail because of previous blogs. I wrote that Starbucks has been closing coffee shops around here since 2020. I did not make it up. I can take you to those closed locations tomorrow, if you have a private jet that can parachute you into this town.

On second thought, I don’t think Starbucks’ secret service knows me. Nobody does, not even my Top 10 readers. They only know my work. For argument’s sake, let’s say Starbucks top brass is watching my every move. I think it is out of appreciation, hence the free banana loaf.  Naaaa! It’s just a figment of my imagination especially because the lady’s eyes reassured me that all is well.

The eyes of a human being are the only constant part of the 'being.' Hair is not a measure of beauty because we re-engineer it, with brown dye or shave it completely. Poor girls in Africa spend over $20 000 (in local currency) buying what they think is blonde hair. No. I don’t look at the hair. I look in someone’s eyes for reassurance.

The Starbucks lady looked at me with all sincerity and gave me the free slices of banana loaf. Her eyes said Starbucks had no ulterior motive for the gift.  I said thank you and went my merry way.
