Cyclists Menace on Pavements
Zulu Lesson
“I do as I please.”
It’s the sign of the times. She does as she pleases. He does as he pleases. We do as we please. Kids do as they please. It’s bound to result in a pile-up, chaos or entangled wool.
Doing as you please is u-ma-thanda in Zulu. It comes from thanda, which means to like/love something or somebody. The language doesn’t have a word for love, as such. Instead, in the olden days, men said excuse me sister, then went on and on with some poetry, intended to impress the woman. Come to think of it, they still do.
Tha-nda you say the first part like time the second like Linda.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump wants to live in the White House again. He was U.S. President from 2016-2020. He does as he pleases because he thinks he will win the election in November. He has committed crimes against the people of America and business associates. He is notorious all over the world, therefore it will be interesting to hear how other languages describe him. In Zulu they say: We-nza u-matha-nda. He does as he pleases.
We-nza. You say the first part like wellness and the second like the Italian snack called panzerotti.
U-ma-than-da. You say the first part like uber, the second like Emma the third like time and the last part like Linda.
We-nza u-matha-nda. He does as he pleases. It’s not complimentary. Kids don’t do as they please because they know the little behinds will get whupped. Donald Trump does as he pleases because he has money for appeals and friends in the highest court in the land: the U.S. Supreme Court.
