America Is Selfish
This is ridiculous. Here I am, watching PBS and learning so much about the number of votes different states have and how they pledged for Kamala Harris at the DNC in Chicago, instead of writing. I need to blog even if it’s one post a day.
America is selfish because people in other countries have a life. It’s not as pleasant as in America, but a life nonetheless, but we are hypnotized by America, warts and all. I went to college in America and I know that all that glitters is not gold. There are people who are still turning the soil and pavements looking for the American dream. We shall shelve that for now and join the delirious mood of preparing for the 5 November election.
America is selfish because Americans don’t follow elections in other countries. We, on the other hand are obsessed by everything American. Why? Because America determines the price of platinum mined outside America, the price of salmon fished very far from American waters, the price of cocoa grown in Ghana and the price of ‘American’ vehicles assembled in Mexico.
America is selfish because they are deliriously happy about the possibility of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. But where do I come in? Where do all outsiders come in? Music. Good music is good music in any language. Look at the little darlings. Toddlers clap and dance at good music. In Italy, they wailed and clutched their mothers’ legs when they heard military music announcing dictator Benito Mussolini’s ‘black shirts.’
America is selfish because I should be writing a blog, taking photos somewhere instead of watching PBS and being educated on how many votes Iowa or Georgia have. Well! Let America be selfish. It’s all good if I’m learning something from this DNC. Shout out to campaign managers of the Harris/Walz ticket. You are behind the scenes, but we see and feel your work. I love the DJ at the vote pledging ceremony. I hope that is what it is called.
