Movies Old School Editing

It is quite common to see camera crews in Winnipeg, Toronto and Vancouver making movies. Some of them are American production companies because it’s cheaper to shoot in Canada.

The next step is editing. It’s faster and much simpler now because making movies is all digital. It’s not like years ago when classic films like Gone with the Wind, To Sir With Love or Saworoide were cut with a splicer and joined with transparent film tape.

Editing is a director’s prerogative although some producers want to have a say on how the final movie is sewn together, because they invested heavily in it.

Scenes that the director felt were useless, were literally cut out, sliced out on the editing bench. That is why they are called out-takes. The director sat next to the film editor, who did the actual work. Out-takes fell on the floor like hair in a barber shop.

Digital editing studios must be clean because out-takes don’t end up on the floor. They are stored in the computer. You can also become a film editor because your phone and laptop show you how to edit the video you took at the cousin’s graduation, baby naming ceremony or 21st birthday party.

Your android phone and laptop have easy to follow steps to making a short video from the many scenes you shot at the event, but do not want to use. You can also watch YouTube how-to videos.

They’ll always be out-takes because we shoot different angles of scenes.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? No Air Miles

I don’t have Air Miles.   I’m considering putting that on a T-Shirt because I cannot go to the drugstore (chemist) or coffee shop without the cashier asking me if I have air miles. We waited for about two minutes the other day, while this guy looked for his Air Miles card in his overweight wallet.   For what?   For a few points. I don’t have air miles because Mathematics is a foreign language.   I was never good in numbers. That is why I squashed the idea of being an investment banker very early in life.   I understand you can invest in cornfields before the soil is turned up or pork bellies even before a baby pig is born. That is how I view air miles, investing in tomorrow or the unknown.   I’m the dumb one.   Some people understand this air miles’ thing so well, I overheard one customer saying: I can even convert my points into cash.
