Donald Trump and The Big Apple

Hollywood movies. Most of them are shot in LA and New York but, none of them are remotely close to Donald Trump’s fraud’s trial.

There’s international interest in the case before Judge Engoron because world travelers once had a bite of the city called ‘the big apple’. Others have never been to New York, but they are connected to it somehow. Stock brokers for example. If their main job is to monitor the New York Stock Exchange, they must adjust sleeping habits if they live in Paris. If time near the Tour Eiffel is 10 p.m., it is 4 p.m. near the Statue of Liberty.

Then there are people who have lived in New York because they were students at City College or Columbia University. Some were European princes who fled their countries when ‘workers of the world unite’ overthrew the monarchy. Other people worked at the United Nations; were mistresses of diplomats; worked in the garment industry; were professional murderers; were recruiters for prostitution rings or were in New York for fashion modelling.

Book Publishing

International interest in Donald Trump's case, can also be attributed to books. New York is the centre of book publishing, or should we say was? Readers have come across books set in New York, so they ‘know’ places like Harlem, Greenwich Village, the Met, Wall Street and Brooklyn.

The current book I’m reading is set in an area I know very well because I was a student at Columbia University J. School. I woke up in the morning and said hello to Harlem which was down there. Our dorm was also within walking distance to Riverside Drive where rich professors lived. It is a novel, but I’m enjoying it because I can relate to some of New York rituals, like walking the streets and shopping at midnight, and all that jazz in the summer.

New York is a U.S. city, but the world lives there, so does Donald Trump.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein.
