Vacation? Use Accredited Tour Guides

Yes. We plan holidays, but there’s still something we miss about countries we visit, because we don’t know the geography and local languages. Hotel staff do, but is it safe? Can you trust them?

What is unfortunate about family vacations is that they are ‘selfish.’ Yes, because the husband might suggest Manila or Geneva because of his secret fetish. The wife is usually clueless because he likes gardening and makes a mean BBQ lamb chops or ribs and adores his daughters. Because of this selfishness, wives spend the vacation in hotel rooms, reading girlie novels while husbands paint the town red or purple. You’ve never worked in a hotel, so you don’t know that women on holiday sit in the room and read romance novels while the husbands goes downstairs to the hotel bar ‘for a drink.’

ACCREDITATION

There should be an option to ‘family holidays.’ Hotels should have accredited tour guides. You work in the hotel, but you have a side-hustle as a tour guide. You know the jumping spots in town, outside the radar of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Ministry.

We tend to look down upon hotel staff but they are potential tour guides that can show us more than Sacre Coeur Cathedral in Paris or Soweto in Johannesburg. Hotel staff live with ‘the people’ that is why they take 5 a.m. taxis to cities to serve hotel guests breakfast.

Capitalism is synonymous with information. You have information. I want it and how much. Hotel staff can have tourism side hustles but they must be accredited, to ensure that tourists are safe and know who took them where and what time. Tourists that are adventurous on their own, under the cloak of darkness have nobody to blame but themselves, if they get lost, stolen or killed. Hire a hotel accredited tour guide.
