Oath and Honor Joined At The Hip

Liz Cheney, an American politician, has published a book Oath and Honor. It is about what transpired before and after Donald Trump’s supporters did the unimaginable, stormed the U.S. Congress on 6 January 2021 to stop Joe Biden from being certified the new U.S. President.

The book’s title indicates that the wound will never heal. How? She uses two words that are the same for all intent and purposes. They are bound together like the tongue and saliva. They cannot be separated. The oath is made by a person who stakes himself or herself on the oath. There’s no oath without the person. It is collateral. I lay my honor, my person on the line. Oath an honor are like Siamese twins.

Scouts' honour. Do they still have that organization called Boy Scouts?

Some Sayings About Oath and Honour

1. There’s no honour among thieves = that’s obvious.

2. To love, honour and obey = brides in Canada, U.S. and Western countries, don’t say that anymore. Couples write their own wedding declaration.

3. Honorable minister = run for your life if you encounter such a minister. There’s no honor at all. It’s just a title British Empire governments inherited from England.

4. Hippocratic oath = doctors swear to do their job diligently.

5. Honor killings = women in some parts of Asia don’t like such killings because they are the only victims. It’s illegal, but some men still kill women for defiling the family’s ‘honor.’

6. Love oath = old Nigerian movies have boy and girl cutting each other’s wrist and merging the blood, to swear they’ll never part.

7. Cult oath = Nigerian directors like movies about taking an oath to belong a cult that will make you rich. You cannot break away later. It’s either you go mad or the cult assassinates you. It’s just fiction, I hope.
