Home Is A Feeling
Home sweet home is something we cannot define like a car, train or escalator. It’s something we feel. It’s something men need the most. That’s hard to believe because they are happier away from home. They love inter-state and overseas business trips, coaching famous sports teams, hanging out with the boys after work or conquering rapids in some river with a name full of clicks.
Men also miss home after sharing sheets with women known as mistresses, side chicks or what the British call, ‘a little bit on the side.’ Women who have affairs with married men, do not understand the announcement: I have to go home. They don’t, because it’s conditions at home, that made the affair possible. Mistresses offer peace and quiet, don’t they? Men want to go home after the brief excursion because of the home magnet. It’s something they cannot describe. It’s not because they are married with kids. Home is just home. Men also feel betrayed when side chicks make demands, when they knew from day one, there was a wife at home.
Kids are the greatest joy obviously, the way they look at their dad when he arrives. They also smile at him for no reason. I must find time and listen to some podcasts. Maybe there will be one where men define what home is, emotionally. Dave Chappelle the comedian, has a joke about arriving home after a tour and finding an empty house. His wife and kids were out somewhere, living their lives without him. It’s comedy, but it might be dejection because it’s nice to find someone at home.
What is home? It’s something that cannot be defined. It drove us crazy during the 2020 pandemic because we were living on top of each other all the time, but home is what Dave Chappelle felt. Home is something that hits a man when he uses his key. Premonition. The house feels sterile, and not because of Lysol. She moved out. Home is his wife’s smile when a man gets home, after leaving his mistress in tears, because he said he was going home.
