Expecting a baby? Call him Lunga if it's a boy, Lungile if it's a girl. Both names mean goodness.

Good is lunga in Zulu.  It is also in greetings.

Question:  Ku-njani? (How are you?)
Answer:  Ku-lungi-le. (I’m well. I’m good. Everything is fine).

Lunga is used for good health, good family relations, financial status, new school or job and good flights.  It is also used in anger or warning: I will fix you.  A child that plays with fire gets burnt.  Elders tell her: The pain is good for you, it fixes you. 

Lu-nga also means O.K. or prepare something so that it looks good.  The first part is pronounced as in the girl’s name Lulu, the second part as in linger.

That fixes you.  You like sleeping.
U-ya-lunga.  A-wu-yi-beki imali.
That fixes you.  You don’t save money.
Tommy, lungi-sa i-kame-lo lakho.
Tommy, clean your room.
Zandi, lungi-sa i-moto yakho.
Zandi, fix your car.
Maria, lungi-sa izi-nwele.
Maria, fix your hair.
Ku-lungi-le.  Ngi-zo-fika.
It’s O.K.  I will come.
Ku-zo-lunga.  Uzo-sebenza futhi.
All will be well. You’ll work again.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? No Air Miles

I don’t have Air Miles.   I’m considering putting that on a T-Shirt because I cannot go to the drugstore (chemist) or coffee shop without the cashier asking me if I have air miles. We waited for about two minutes the other day, while this guy looked for his Air Miles card in his overweight wallet.   For what?   For a few points. I don’t have air miles because Mathematics is a foreign language.   I was never good in numbers. That is why I squashed the idea of being an investment banker very early in life.   I understand you can invest in cornfields before the soil is turned up or pork bellies even before a baby pig is born. That is how I view air miles, investing in tomorrow or the unknown.   I’m the dumb one.   Some people understand this air miles’ thing so well, I overheard one customer saying: I can even convert my points into cash.
