Trump Lesson From New Zealand
Who is Jacinda Ardern? She is the New Zealand Prime Minister who resigned this year.
How far is the U.S. from New Zealand? Miles apart. More than that actually, oceans and continents apart, but they have one thing in common. They are former British colonies. The Royal Navy landed in pristine lands and planted the British flag, because they were not occupied, just a few natives.
Settlers established the countries known as New Zealand and the U.S. run by a system of democracy, no matter how flawed it is. There are elections. One party wins and the loser makes a nice speech to admit defeat. Life goes on. That changed in 2020 when Donald Trump did not accept the will of the American people. The vote told him that he must go. The tank was empty.
Which brings me to the tank analogy and Jacinda Ardern, the New Zealand Prime Minister. She just announced she will not seek re-election in February. She acknowledged it was not an easy job. “I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice.”
Her party, the Labour Party and voters will remember her for that admission, not enough in the tank. The world will remember her too, because men kill to stay in office. Images of women and children crossing deserts and rivers do not move them. He must stay in power.
Trump is in your face, that’s why we forget that Africa is the birthplace of despots who don’t want to go home when the tank is empty. There’s a country in east Africa called Uganda. Yoweri Museveni has been president since 1986.
Trump must learn from Jacinda Ardern. We will all die tomorrow (sorry for the reminder), but what does Trump want on his tombstone? My election was stolen. Jacinda Ardern will have the tank quote.
