Hard Copy Calendars

The local bookstore has moved all the books to the second floor. What greets visitors on the ground floor are baby clothes and displays of 2024 desk calendars, note pads and day planners.

What is the difference between day planners and diaries? I never kept a diary. It was something we saw in the movies, for example. The girl died and there were no leads, until her diary revealed the murderer. Do boys keep diaries? That is all water under the bridge now because of cellphones. Calendars, diaries or whatever you call it, are in phones and laptops. That’s why I was surprised at the elaborate display at the bookstore. Maybe I shouldn’t judge because it has certain facts and figures that indicate there’s still a demand for hard copy things like calendars.

Desk calendars? I’m not sure how useful those are because the home office moved to the laptop, which we take every where: coffee shop, the park, the beach, you name it. This applies to office managers too. They put the laptop on the desk calendar and type away. Digital devices are also ‘clever’ because they change the time, for day light saving time in countries like Canada.

How did we manage before cellphones? We were more alert about time, and we wrote things down on day planners and calendars.
