Georgia Voter Suppression

Old post 13 October 2022, about how the U.S. state of Georgia made laws to suppress the vote, based on Trump's lie that his election was stolen.

Issues are the foundation of elections. What am I voting for? How does the person I’m voting for, perceive me as an individual?

That is why abortion is in the headlines in Georgia, because it has always been one of the issues in American elections. But voters in that state have an extra load on their heads. Will they be able to vote at all, bearing in mind the state’s 2021 Election Integrity Act? It depends on how well they understand it.

Governor Kemp and his Republicans say it has loads of integrity. The Democratic Party says it is integrity-free, nothing but voter suppression, to make it difficult for Georgia voters to come out. Voting activists burnt the midnight oil before and after it was passed, explaining its ramifications.

They are still doing it. One strategy they can use is the tried and tested BEFORE and AFTER, especially in printed material. Some voters do not like online messages. They are more comfortable with flyers and other printed material.

WHAT?

BEFORE THE ACT

AFTER THE ACT

Official ballot boxes

disqualification

early voting

Absentee ballot requests

where to vote

weekend voting

I.D. required

harassment

Long voting lines

The ruling GOP is hoping the Election Integrity Act will cause confusion. It is up to voting activists to neutralize that by accelerating the educational campaign.

How about safety? Will voters be safe from vigilantes?
