When Immigrants Shun Voting
Immigrants who have been in Canada and U.S. long enough to vote, might not because of personal reasons.
1. They did not vote in original countries because of religion, women’s second class status, being born into a ‘inferior’ class, dictatorships or limited education.
2. They still don’t embrace certain aspects of Canadian and American freedom that initially attracted them.
3. They came for economic reasons and making money to support religion, institutions and values they left behind, is the priority.
4. Delusions of superiority over hot dog and hamburger immigrants.
That might be true for older immigrants, but immigrant kids born in these countries or who arrived when they were small have many things to lose, if they don’t vote.
Immigration is an election issue in north America. Therefore, it makes sense that groups of people affected by which politician wins, should exercise their right to vote.
