Blue Monday

For whatever reason, our mind is pickled on Monday.

Blue Monday. Who came up with that color, and why single out that auspicious day of the week? Ha! Ha! Auspicious because it’s a mockery of our lives. We cannot plan. We do not learn from our mistakes. We don’t believe in the proverb, once bitten twice shy. We are bitten a hundred times but we are still not shy about it.

Last Monday, we vowed that we will not make mistakes we made the previous Monday. Remember, Monday is synonymous with week, because it’s the beginning of the week. And here we are, another Monday. We revived the same mistakes. We missed the garbage truck because we forgot that Monday is garbage collection day. We forgot to fill up because we thought we had enough gas to take us to work.  The boss called to find out where we were. She fired us when we said we are marooned by the highway, because of an empty gas tank. Drastic action, but she figured we are not capable of management if we cannot take care of something as basic as filling up the tank, to prepare for Monday, the auspicious day.

Last Monday, we felt there was something strange about the city. It was deserted. Where’s everybody? We forgot that most shops don’t open on Monday because business is very slow. Only drugstores and food marts are open. See what I mean? Surely, we must remember something like that. That’s the point. Monday is an auspicious day, because our mind is closed for business.
