No Need To Remember
There’s no need to remember what day it is because phones and laptops tell us, as soon as we power them in the morning. That is scary, because people who don’t remember things are locked up in mental institutions, refusing to see their kids, because they don’t remember them.
There’s no need to remember most things, because of technology. That is dangerous because there will come a time, when doctors could remove a part of the brain we don’t use. Let’s say, the ‘remembering artery’ if there is something like that. Stores remove items that are not moving, even when they are 70% off. City Hall discontinues buses from routes that have dwindling passengers. Condominiums and flats built in the last ten years have short corridors as kitchens, because cooking is out of fashion.
That is what might happen to us, if technology takes over the ‘remembering’ function. Yes, I appreciate my phone reminding me of meetings, doctors’ appointments and lunch dates but surely, I should remember what day of the week it is. Let’s not forget that wealthy men have been forgetful since the beginning of a space called the office. That’s why they had secretaries who bought flowers and gifts for the wife’s birthday. Secretaries also continue to book tables for wedding anniversaries, because such dates are important to women, not men.
“I don’t remember.”
“Take your time, you will.”
And we do remember finally, don’t we?
