Dialogue With The Boss
Yes. It’s better to dialogue with the boss, not talk to him or her. Talking is when we say we have finished the given task, or the delivery was made quickly, since the customer was kind enough to wait outside the door.
A dialogue is when you tell the boss about your aspirations, and the boss says you are in the wrong place because the company is going bankrupt. Are you taking evening Accounting classes at the polytechnic or community college? Dialogue with the boss. Don’t assume she knows you are good with numbers.
Minimum wage jobs? We look down upon them but it’s something to while away time until you achieve your future goals. However, you need a tough skin in the minimum wage industry because it can be vicious. Example. Once upon a time, there was a worker. Let’s call her Zazi (which means the proud one in Zulu). She brought in about eight girls from her country. I guess she thought the boss liked her. On the contrary, the boss was frustrated. During morning meetings she would parcel out responsibilities in English, and the girls would carry on conversations with Zazi simultaneously, in their own language. Zazi would even hide work tools from English speaking girls and give them to her home girls.
Just before the pandemic, a new girl was hired. She happened to understand Zazi’s language because she was from a neighboring country. Example. Russia and Ukraine are at war, but they share languages and inter-marry. The boss promoted the new girl. Zazi’s shock when the boss introduced her as ‘assistant’ is indelible in my mind. Zazi left the company after four months.
You see, Zazi assumed things. The new girl had a dialogue with the boss and told her she would solve that language problem.
