Laptops His and Hers

Technology killed romance because of the proverb, it takes two to tango. If there are two people in the sleeping room, there are two laptops and two phones.

Romance is compromised because they don’t close their devices at the same time and slide in the 800 cotton thread count sheets. One continues to ‘work’ longer than the other. The other might want to cuddle after the ‘romantic’ dinner they had an hour ago.

Romance is a Hollywood legacy, for another time, another place where there were only two people in the room. Now there are three, the other woman’ being a laptop or cellphone. But wait. Television is also technology and we installed it where we sleep. That’s right, but two watched the same box. The latest technology we are swimming in right now, is HIS and HERS, and it’s a no-go area for both.Touching someone’s phone is inviting divorce.

Technology kills romance, only if romance was the foundation for marriage or the relationship. It’s not an issue for the majority of women. It is, for the minority of women that sleep in 800 cotton thread count sheets (a friend who first told me about these numerical sheets was not amused when I laughed at the notion).

Here we are in 2023, fighting technology, the other woman. What do we do? Turn a blind eye when he walks out to answer a call, and finance that big monitor he has been craving for, increase data plans so that he can watch videos, do more gaming everywhere, literally everywhere, even in restaurants during romantic dinners.
