Tik Tok Forbidden U.S. Fruit
American civil servants are going to miss all the Tik Tok fun because the U.S. Senate has approved a bill to ban it from government laptop computers and cellphones.
Why? Something to do with Chinese spies stealing top secrets via Tik Tok and the U.S. knows a lot about espionage. How? Because a Zulu proverb says: a path is familiar to the person who walks it.
Top management jobs in the private sector and government departments usually come with a cellphone and laptop. The U.S. Senate passed the No Tik Tok On Government Devices Act. Firstly, the name of this Act doesn’t beat about the bush. Tik Tok is the bush in this case.
The Act is simple and straight forward, which is unusual because all governments have complicated names for legislation. Secondly, it is good news for Tik Tok because usage will go through the roof. Plain curiosity. What’s Tik Tok? I thought it was one of those video games kids love.
However, civil servants, the target for the No Tik Tok On Government Devices Act are not worried. They will Tik Tok on their lunch break, using personal phones. If they are addicts, they’ll say: May I Tik Tok your bathroom? Sorry, use your bathroom?
Nigeria tried internet censorship. It banned Twitter on 4 June 2021 and lifted the ban in January this year. Now, this U.S. Act demonstrates once again, the huge gap between people who make laws and what is happening on the ground.
