Alberta Rebellion Lessons From Quebec

Canada has 10 provinces. Alberta, one of them doesn’t like the federal government which is based in Ottawa. That’s why Premier Danielle Smith is pushing the Alberta Sovereignty Act Within a United Canada.

Ordinary people on the street do not understand the long title. All they see is history repeating itself. Alberta wants to break away from Canada to do as it pleases, just like Quebec the French speaking Province tried to do.

Novel About Quebec’s Attempt To Leave Canada

Does fiction explain political history better than history books? Sometimes. I’m currently reading a novel about Quebec’s history and how the province decided to remain part of the entity called Canada.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith must read it because it affects her plans. It will help her determine what next. It’s a very easy read because the author gave readers two goal posts: Veronique, a French speaking believer that Quebec should break away from Canada and stand alone and James her lover, who comes from a long line of English-speaking families in Quebec.

Alberta’s Case

Premier Danielle Smith must have an engine that will drive the sovereignty. It was language in Quebec. What is the engine for Alberta? Are people in Alberta on board for that engine? The language engine in Quebec was not automatic. Some preferred the fourth gear, others wanted to remain on 2.

This novel mentions what happened in Canada during the Meech Lake Accord. Is Premier Danielle Smith willing to take that route?
