Buckingham Palace Sherlock Holmes

Where do you really come from?

Lady Hussey, who was the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting directed the question at Ngozi Fulani, founder of Sistah Space at a Buckingham Palace event this week.

Ngozi Fulani was offended by Hussey’s interrogation because it is usually directed at black people. I’ve come across that question a few times. In my case the really came after saying I’m Canadian. The BBC posted Hussey’s line of questioning and it’s clear she was interrogating Ngozi Fulani.

Black people in Canada do not understand how that question is relevant because everybody in Canada is an immigrant. Immigration is a whole industry because it is a country that does not replenish itself. Women who have been here longer, prefer to have one or two kids or none at all.

Lady Susan Hussey and the group of people in the ‘royal court’ must use some common sense and avoid asking questions such as:

1. Where do you really come from?

2. ‘Aren’t you hot in those long black clothes?’ Muslims will find that offensive.

3. ‘You have a nice Jamaican accent.’ Not all black people come from Jamaica.

4. ‘I’m sponsoring a child in Africa.’ Europe colonized Africa. Instead of Europe paying the owners of the land rent, it made them slaves and charged them a ‘poll tax.’ It also sent them to World War 1 and World War 2 to fight for the Queen.
