Let Demar DeRozan Move On

DeMar, say No to podcast questions about Toronto Raptors. It’s is in the past. DeMar Darnell DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls must be bullish with podcasts about how he left Toronto.

He must make a statement that he will not entertain questions about it anymore. He has said it all. There’s nothing to add. Darnell was in Toronto from 2009-2018. How he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs is old news, archives, water under the bridge and we don’t want to hear it anymore.

Darnell should take a stand that he will only answer questions about Chicago Bulls, his present home. No more Toronto Raptors. He moved. New country, new city, new zip code and NBA affiliation.

Podcasts can be disappointing at times. Technology provides them with a platform that can give viewers alternative opinion, opinion that is not dictated by a TV producer shouting questions in the ear piece.

Podcast hosts wear two critical hats: producer’s and director’s. They are supposed to be independent thinkers like community and college radio stations back in the day, before the free-for-all technology got here.

Unfortunately, many sports podcasts don’t realize their potential. They use traditional media scripts. That is why they love talking about how Darnell was traded. What is disturbing is that this obsession is misleading.

1. It implies that Darnell was supposed to be in Toronto forever.

2. It implies that NBA rules about how players are traded should have been waived.

3. It implies that Masai Ujiri, Toronto Raptors President did something wrong.

Questions about Toronto are a disservice to Darnell, a player that loves the game and is exceptional in it. If podcasts are independent thinkers, they should constantly remind us about the greatness of the man, not where he has been and how he left.
