Street Facebook vs Corporate Facebook

Street Facebook will always be street, despite the new corporate name Meta. Incidentally, meta means 3 in Yoruba, a Nigerian language.

Technology companies and the global business world understand the new name because it brings into the Facebook fold the three brothers,  Instagram, Whatsapp  and Messenger.

The street doesn’t know that. The platform where it plays, hustles, curse enemies or destroy reputations will always be Facebook. The name is self explanatory, easy to remember and it’s in your face, sort of.

Some sections of the street are probably not aware that Instagram and Facebook are brothers. They think moving to Instagram is a better option. On the contrary, Facebook photos are clearer than Instagram, which has a fuzzy look.

The street doesn’t care about the name change, because it is a tech company on its own. Facebook, like Google, YouTube and the whole tech squad has few African American and African employees, so they do their own social media tweaking.

The street doesn’t lose sleep over what happens in tech boardrooms, so it might not know that Sheryl Sandberg is vacating her desk as Meta COO in the fall.

It was a corporate decision to change to the name. Users are an after thought. Meta should be doing some introspection why Instagram is almost a cult, and use findings for the other platforms.

Meta should also be looking at adopting users that will close Twitter accounts on principle: Elon Musk.
