Summer Broken Bones

One good thing about winter is hiding the evidence. Summer exposes it like the butt of a frog, to quote a Zulu proverb.

All the weight we gained in 2020, the year of the COVID  was multiplied in ‘21 and ‘22 because lockdown lingered. Maybe I’m just using the pandemic as an excuse.

Truth be told though, winter is the culprit. We eat, snuggle and eat. Eat, snuggle and eat. No exercise. The secret is safe because it is hidden under winter coats and snow suits.

Summer brings in desperation. The weight is in the spotlight so we resort to extreme measures. We throw caution to the wind and head for the gym where we try advanced weight lifting. We drop an iron and break an arm. We increase the speed on the treadmill expecting miracles. We break a leg and end up in crutches.

Alternatively, we go back to the early morning run in the park, only to irritate people we live with because we check the bathroom scale after every run. No improvement, winter weight doesn’t move an inch.

You have a choice. Admit the damage you caused in winter and exercise gradually. If not, you’ll spend the summer in crutches.
