Dubai Adjusts Dresses For Nigerian Geography

Ask Nigerians about Dubai. They’ll extol business opportunities and entertainment facilities, despite the fact that Nigeria and United Arab Emirates are worlds part because of religion. Northern Nigeria is mostly Muslim, but the rest is ancestor-based religion and Christianity that came with God Save the Queen.

Britain, Nigeria’s former colonizer regards China as the bad guy, that stole the Nigerian market, from replacing local food like yams with noodles to making fake ‘royal’ beads used by the Nollywood movie industry and celebrities at their weddings.

China is a patient observer. It moves into a country, observes national customs that generate a lot of money, and nails them. When you have time, research all traditional dress in the whole world and see how many are not copied by China, killing local art and businesses.

Britain owes Nigeria interest for having stolen gold and other natural resources, let alone timber and other land products. China does not have that tainted history.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is another country with close trade ties with Nigeria, that does not have colonial stains. Nigerians simply say they are going to Dubai.

How Dubai Nailed Nigerian Clothing Market

Dubai is in UAE. Islam is the religion. Women have covered the body with black clothes since the beginning of time. Dubai cloth merchants observed certain things about Nigerian women.

l Tradition demands that married women cover their bodies, hide upper and lower areas.

l Nigerian women have a certain body structure that is not like British and American models. It becomes even more pronounced after marriage.

l Nigerian women love western fashion trends despite their unique physical form.

l Nigerian women love colour, unless they are from the north of the country where religion demands black, gray and other tame colours.

Dubai’s roaring textile trade with Nigeria is based on understanding the above. They make all clothes roomy, to accommodate the unique African shape. They give kaftan dresses gold or pink borders.

They make long sleeveless tops to cover black leggings, Nigerians women love like the rest of the world. Dubai makes green and other colourful kaftan dresses.

In other words, Dubai merchants tweak religious clothes to suit Nigerian women’s geography.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is.
