No Phones At Weddings

Weddings prohibit digital devices now.

We don’t question NO SMOKING signs. They are so common place, we forget that smoking was once glamorous. The leading man in the movies smoked, one of the reasons why people took up smoking, back then.

Romance was tied to smoking. The leading lady flipped open her silver cigarette case, put one in her mouth and a cigarette lighter materialized from nowhere.

No phones at weddings will also become standard because they defeat the purpose of invited guests, supposed to come and be happy with the couple. The Zulu language puts it very well ‘bungaza’, which literally means we are gathered here to be happy with you.

Phones at weddings usurp private property, photos of the couple. Guests record the wedding to use them on social media to boost page views. They also alter photos and videos in any way they deem fit.

Weddings used to have official photographers, who delivered photos to the owners: the couple. They kept them in special albums that were viewed years later, by children and grandchildren.

More and more couples will prohibit phones at their wedding, or simply make the ceremony very private, parents, best man and maid of honour.
