Voters Demand No Floor Crossing Oath

Jenica Atwin voted in as Green Party, she crossed the floor to Liberal Party in 2021.
Canada is a British colony. That is why it has a parliamentary system rooted in British tradition. Floor crossing is part of it. It allows a politician to switch lanes in a provincial government or the federal government in Ottawa.

How? Example. Green Party supporters in New Brunswick voted for Jenica Atwin in 2019. In 2021, she crossed the floor in Ottawa and joined the Liberal Party. Where does that leave voters who chose her because they did not like the Liberal Party?

In the cold, because tradition overrides democracy. Manitoba, one of Canada’s provinces banned floor crossing in 2006. Gary Doer who was Premier because of his party the NDP, said floor crossing goes against voters’ wishers.

Because of tradition, television debates do not include questions about it. Most voters know who they will vote for, so it doesn’t matter how well or poorly Justin Trudeau, Pierre Poilievre, Yves-Francois Blanchet or Jasmeet Singh perform in these debates.

If political parties believe that floor crossing is theft, robbery, cheating, hacking and election fraud, they must put it in black and white that they are against it. The media should make it a standard question during provincial and federal elections.

Most of all, anyone running for political office must take an oath of allegiance to voters. I won’t betray you. I won’t run away with your vote to another party.
