Broom For The Mind

Grass brooms. Photo Credit: online pic.

We love Friday because it is a broom that sweeps away grime in the mind. There are things we can never forget, maybe we don’t try enough. That is why we use smoking, drugs and alcohol as brooms to sweep away things that cling to the mind like climbing ivy.

Things we indulge in on Friday are temporary. They are like brooms without a handle, grandma gave us to sweep inside the house, especially under beds. Friday fun is an expensive broom though, because it needs bridesmaids and best men, leading us to stretch credit cards with no limit, even further.

We also think people can be a broom to help us sweep away the past. It might be a marriage we knew it will never work, or investing financially in partners that don’t care for us. That is even more traumatic, because the more they fail to sweep away the sawdust in our minds,  the more we shift the blame to them.

Shrinks or psychoanalysts make money from our inability to forget, but only wealthy people can afford their services. I suppose there are online shrinks. Everything is online, except surgery to remove a damaged appendix.

Friday cannot be a broom to wash away things we don’t want to remember, but we can use it as a wake-up call when we are online. We should not use phones and laptops to create additional memories that would be difficult to erase.
