Trudeau Biden and Novak Djokovic
What do they have in common? First, a recap. We cannot assume the reader knows who they are.
NAME | POSITION | Covid-19 Status |
Justin Trudeau | Prime Minister, Canada | l Tested positive early in 2020 when virus waves first hit the shore. l Tested positive in June year ‘22. |
Joseph Robinette Biden | President, United States | Tested positive twice in July year ‘22. |
Novak Djokovic, from Serbia | World tennis champion | Tested positive on 16 December 2021 before Australian Open. Refused to vaccinate so Canberra deported him. |
Trudeau and Biden have something Novak Djokovic wants. Tennis. There are open tournaments most players want to crack a serve in. Montreal is one of them. Its formal name is the National Bank Open and kicks off 8 August in Montreal, Canada.
Novak Djokovic wanted to play but he cannot, because Canada has a health policy: no vax no play. He is scared of needles so he does not believe in vaccination. Canada, a whole country cannot bend the rules for him no matter how many tennis championships he has under his belt, or should we say under his racquet?
Next stop is New York, the U.S. Open from 29 August to 11 September. It has the same health policy as Canada and Australia, no vax no play. Novak Djokovic will be allowed to play only if he overcomes his fear of needles and submit his arm for vaccination.
Back to the headline: Trudeau, Biden and Novak Djokovic. What do they have in common? Covid-19. It sneaks in, in all creatures great and small. Djokovic regards himself as the greatest tennis creature that ever lived, but the virus got him.
Game, set, match, championship, to Covid-19.
