Oprah Wants Oprah Back

What’s in a name? Goodwill. Investors like buying companies with healthy goodwill. Oprah Winfrey’s company Harpo Inc. has gone to court to stop a podcast called Oprahdemics from using her name, and she is not suing for a dime.

She just wants them to drop her name, despite the podcast’s main ingredient, which is analyzing back copies of the Oprah Winfrey Show over the years. I think the -demics part is based on the two academics hosting the podcast.

Spike Lee, the famous African American producer and director who gave us films such as School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever,  Mo’ Better Blues and Malcolm X will watch Oprah’s lawsuit with interest because he’s been there.

In 2003, Viacom the media elephant changed TNN to Spike TV. Spike Lee took them to court maintaining that his name is a pull factor. Lee and Viacom came to a settlement and the company continued using the name Spike TV.

Who is Oprah Winfrey? People in all four corners of the globe know who she is. Oprah herself knows herself. That is why she wants to keep her name to herself and not share it with a podcast named Oprahdemics.

She even made a funny show about the spelling of her name back in the day. Harpo Inc probably has it in the archives. One woman in the show said her son likes her so much he spells ‘opera’ the music like this.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Einstein Passengers

Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein.
