Carpenters and Film Production
Cowboy films had a sheriff’s office, a tavern door, tables and chairs, a prison cell, etc. Most of these things were partly made by carpenters. You are not a Hollywood producer. You make a whole YouTube film in your apartment, but if you live in the U.S. it will be a good idea to fly to L.A. and visit old Hollywood studios. India is the biggest film producer in the world, so you can visit studios in Mumbai, Chennai and other places.
I don’t enjoy movies anymore because the ‘producer’s eye’ is always blinking like a calculator. How much did that cost? How can I produce something cheaper for the director? How can I provide a kitchen for my director without actually providing a full kitchen?
Visiting a Hollywood studio with a ‘carpenter’s eye’ will enable you to identify props that were made by carpenters. What does paint do? It covers a carpenter’s work. Walls in a movie are covered with wallpaper or fake covering that looks like bricks. Underneath is what a carpenter created.
YouTube Carpenters
What do you do as a Nigerian producer, do you commission a carpenter to make four bar stools you will use in all your movies, or do you encourage carpenters in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan or Abuja to create work and rent it out to producers?
Nigeria is the second largest film producing country after India therefore, it has the potential to boost carpenters the way the industry boosts tailors (designers). Unfortunately, China is also a beneficiary because producers spend money of wigs that make actresses look like ‘white women.’ The industry makes it very hard for parents because where do they get the money to buy expensive ‘bone straight’ wigs for 15 year-old schoolgirls?
