Arizona 'Swing' My Way Wish

Waiting To Exhale, a film about the great state of Arizona, directed by Forest Whitaker. Poor thing, he is being held hostage by his leading ladies in this pic. It doesn't look like he's in pain though. The film is based on a novel by Terry McMillan.

Arizona. They call it a swing state for the 2024 presidential election. Why? I’m not good with numbers but apparently, it is about electoral votes.

Don’t ask me about that either, because I find it complicated. The only reason I’m educating myself about electoral votes is because of what Donald Trump and his foot soldier Michael Roman, tried to do with fake electors in Georgia and Arizona. The intention was to use them to steal the 2020 election from Joe Biden and pretend that Donald Trump had won.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is not amused and charged Trump’s lawyers like Mark Meadows with the attempt to steal Arizona’s 2020 election. The court case is scheduled for 5 January 2026.

Where is Arizona? I know where it is. Well! Cinema-wise, because of Waiting to Exhale, a classic film. Classic is subjective. It is classic to me because it was shot in Arizona. It is classic because Forest Whitaker the director, used lights as a brush to give every scene its own palette. In fact, I insist that film production courses must include films like Waiting to Exhale, Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever and Farewell My Concubine a project from China. Or is it Hong Kong?

Arizona. It is a swing state to you. It is Waiting to Exhale to me. But, I hope voters in Arizona ‘swing’ the election the right way, so that I can visit the state one day. Call me a “wish-I-could” tourist, to quote Keon Coleman, a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills.
