Make More in Zulu

Dublin Ireland, statues depicting the Great Potato Famine, when the Irish died because
potatoes, their main food disappeared from the ground. Many went to America and Africa.

Make more is andisa in Zulu.

It is also used for naming kids. No, it’s more than that. It means the birth of another member of an existing surname.

Example, Jennings surname. A child is born today. Great jubilation! Here are possible names. Some names are for both boys and girls, because names are a story, family history.

If it’s a boy: Andile ama-Jennings, which means we have more boys in the Jennings family.

If it’s a girl: Andile ama-Jennings, which means we have more girls in the Jennings family.

Boy or girl: Wandile, means the immediate family has more Jennings.

If it’s a boy: Sandile, which means we, the Jennings are more, multiplied.

If it’s a boy or girl: Bandile, which means there are more painters, welders, doctors, lawyers or teachers in the Jennings family.

Food. A-ndi-sa also applies to food, women’s efforts all over the world to feed more people, to make food ‘stretch.’ That’s why some families eat bread and sugared water, potatoes, baked beans, rice, noodles, pasta, hard cornmeal porridge, sardines, pork skins, tripe or chicken gizzards everyday.

Knorr cubes are very salty, but are popular because they make ‘more soup’ and they come in various food colouring e.g. oxtail or chicken. Mama used them a lot, especially when we had more cousins staying temporarily or for a long time. A lot of salt silently takes its toll on the heart, in the long run.

Kool-Aid used to be popular all over the world because of aggressive advertising. It was synonymous with a sugary drink. Thirsty? Kool-Aid was the first thing that came to mind, open a packet, drop in a jug of water, stir, add ice if you have an ice-box, and serve the kids.

Some kids in the U.S. even had their first business venture at 10 years old: selling Kool-Aid outside their homes.

A-ndi-sa, means make more food, jobs, clothes and unfortunately, more climate change and nuclear weapons. A-ndi-sa. You say the first part as us, the second like indigo and the last like some.
