Advise is luleka in Zulu.

Advise comes from sharing knowledge I suppose, usually with the younger generation, or younger staff members who have just joined the organization.

It was something else for women in ancient Africa. Mothers advised their daughters very early in life. The most important advice came just before they got married and it was pretty standard: respect your husband, respect your in-laws, respect your husband’s other wives and have patience.

When they didn’t listen to their husbands, their in-laws blamed their mothers for not advising them properly. In some instances, they were sent back home to be re-advised.

In modern times, governments and CEO’s have advisers. Twitter makes advisers redundant because presidents speak off the cuff, spewing sentiments that are detrimental to the future prospects of a political party.

We are in a COVID-19 situation, so the World Health Organization (WHO) advises us how we go about preventing more infection.

Lu-le-ka (to advise, the act of advising). You say the first part like look, the second like leg and the third like Kamala Harris.
I-se-lu-le-ko (advice). You say the first part like email, the second like sell, the third like look, the fourth like leg and the last like comatose, with a soft -C-.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? Being a passenger is very stressful.   You must listen to the owner of the car, nod and grumble yes to everything he says because you don’t want to piss him off. Two things can happen if you disagree with the driver: he can lose concentration and you all end up in a mash-up accident or stop the car and ask you to get out.   That is the driver’s prerogative.   You must listen to me if you are a passenger in my car.   Let’s flip the script for a minute and sympathise with the driver if she has a passenger who is more intelligent than Albert Einstein. He talks non-stop.   It is all about himself, how right he is, how good he is, how stupid his boss is. Einstein is also a driving instructor.   “Careful.   Look at that guy.   Is he crazy or something? ” says Einstein.
