Impeachment and Eggs

Democrats have a game plan for winning the 2020 U.S. presidential election I suppose, but putting all eggs in the ‘impeach President Trump’ basket, might result in an omelete with cheese toppings, toppings for Republicans.

Simply because there are constitutional voters and non constitutional  voters. Constitutional voters understand that the impeachment inquiry is based on Article 2 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution.

Non constitutional voters do not. They don’t replay what teachers taught them about this important document. They rely on what they perceive to be the American basket, which contains fruit, vegetables and eggs, translate that into American values. This is where thunder strikes and rips America into two.

Values are either a call to drape the flag around the neck or a security risk which prompts some parents to bring kids inside and close the drapes in fear.

Non constitutional voters regard the intent to impeach Trump as an underhanded attempt to nullify the kind of basket they voted for in 2016. They might not know the name of the President of Ukraine but they know theirs, and it is Donald Trump.

House Democrats know how to navigate the impeachment inquiry but does the proverbial ‘man in the street’ understand why his party initiated it?

The whole thing is on television and comedy shows, but House Democrats cannot guarantee that the public fully understands the issue. What did the president do wrong?  

Then there is the foreign policy element in the impeachment process. It happened far away, not on home soil. Some Americans expect the whole world to know about the U.S. but they do not know much about the rest of the world. That is why they might not see the impeachment inquiry as a reason for removing a sitting president.

That stance might hurt Democrats in 2020 with voters switching allegiances. That is why they must distribute the eggs, and put some in recruiting new voters on the ground. It won’t help Democrats if voters feel that their man or woman in Washington only cares about impeaching Trump and not about another business going bust because of technology, credit cards questions being answered by staff in another country and imports from China.

2020 should not be about impeaching Donald Trump. That will be putting all Democrat eggs in one basket.
