Pretend Christians

Christians and finger pointing. ‘You don’t go to church?’

It sounds like a guilty verdict. Not anymore. COVID-19 is here and there’s no church, so both sinners and saints are home staring at online images they are not supposed to be checking out.

Some places of worship like television churches are not affected I guess, because they were on the screen, long before the pandemic broke window panes, leaving us exposed.

The accusing finger is what gives religion a bad name. Accusers are free to do hateful, down right evil and even criminal things during the week, but come Sunday, they are pure like falling snow, because they are in church pews and altars.

Book Review - Before Redemption

Author, Teresa McClain-Watson presents Nikki Lucas, a character that doesn’t go to church thanks to her hypocritical aunt, who refused to take her in when she knocked on her door, young and pregnant. The aunt went to church every Sunday without fail.

Years later, Nikki comes face to face with her old boyfriend, who is now Bishop Cochran, CEO of all New Life Baptist Churches. The author did a good job with helping readers understand why Nikki Lucas believes in God but wouldn’t be seen dead, in a church.

Movie Review - The Day After

Al Robbins’ movie has the usual boy meets girl plot. Desire is vocal about places of worship and their manipulative ways, especially coaxing money from worshipers.

Will tells Desire he is a Christian. Will has a cousin who pushes things on the street. He borrows Will’s car and shoots somebody. Desire sees him. Will tells his cousin to do whatever it takes to stop Desire from singing to the cops. Kill her? Now, that blew my mind.

Conclusion

COVID-19 has forced us to re-evaluate our lives, especially places we use to avoid home. Some of them made us a cut above the rest. I go to church, he sits in a tavern/bar from sun-up to sundown.

COVID-19 requires some introspection. Are you a true believer or pretend Christian? If going to church every Sunday made you superior to your work mates and neighbors, how do you feel now, with the church on lockdown?
