Kids Named Happiness

Be happy is -thaba in Zulu. Happiness is the ideal, because it is such a rare commodity. We get by, shuffle along, living one day at a time, even people with bottomless bank accounts like Oprah and the Queen of England.

Being unhappy is the essence of life. We should be grateful because perpetually happy people end up behind bars in mental institutions. “She can’t stop smiling doctor.”

Parents are happy when a child is born. That is why you find thousands of kids called happiness in South Africa.

Thaba-ni = name for boys meaning many people should be happy.
Ba-thabi-le = name for girls meaning they are happy.

Happiness is also tied to ambition. Politicians for example. They are driven by sheer ambition to be the Canadian Prime Minister or U.S. President.

It is worse in Africa, where they cling to power until violence topples them. Anyway, when political parties win elections they say: si-thabile (we are happy).

-thaba is the verb. You pronounce the first part like tally, the second like baba.
Thaba-ni. Same as above but the last part like niece.
Thabi-le. You pronounce the first part like tally, the second like Ibiza, a Spanish island and the last part like leg.

Comfort Food As Regret Food

Chicken curry. Comfort food is good for the soul, which usually bleeds in winter from icy roads, bad drivers that want to annihilate pedestrians, frozen fingers and toes that take a sabbatical.   What happened to my toes?   I thought I was wearing special socks for boots? The internet and mama have something in common: manners.   They believe that always say Hi! To people you meet. Home is where the heart is, but it is rough being at home these digital days.   People are so tied up in chat rooms, Instagram, Twitter, FB, YouTube or Google mania, they don’t have a minute to say hi or good night to people they share a toilet or kitchen with. Thank god for internet players.   They say hi to me when I re-open a document after a thirty minutes’ break.   It’s all automated, but it is nice when the computer calls me by my name and encourages me to continue, where I left off.
